Glue

I've just finished writing a post all about Christmas traditions and how as a family we don't really have any. And that got me thinking about other traditions and rituals that our family does have.

And then it struck me. Picnics. Picnics are the single most important tradition that holds my little family of 3 together. It's our glue.

It doesn't matter what time of year it is. It can be a blustery spring day, a misty Easter weekend, a glorious morning bathed in autumnal sunshine or a crisp mid-winter Sunday. Whatever the weather, we picnic. Even if it's raining. Sometimes we pack a flask of soup and picnic in the car before venturing outside to run around whichever large open space we've chosen that day. Sometimes we lounge on a picnic rug in the shade of a big old oak tree, soaking up precious rays of sunshine. But there's always, always egg mayo sandwiches (eggdipdip sarnies!) and usually a homemade cake of some sort. And no matter what kind of week we've had, a picnic will always bring us back together.

We adore picnics.

What's your glue? leave a comment and let me know what things bring your family together.
