A new crafty hobby...?

So, I think I may have found a new craft hobby.

What's that you say? But I've yet to master the art of sewing and I have reams of fabric for multiple sewing projects? Yeah, I hear ya...but...well...erm...

Ok, ok I know. But someone introduced me to the world of crochet today and I'm hooked already!

I haven't even made anything yet. My first few attempts at making dinky little crochet flowers were complete disasters...but I can see me enjoying it. I can see said crochet flowers being used as embellishments on said fabric projects.

It just looks like so much fun! (I know, I know, I need to get out more...)

Now, how do I do a slip knot again...?

Creative genius? Moi?

So today is a "work from home" day for me.

Except, I've been such a busy little bee all week I managed to finish all my work for the week bar a few little Internet research projects.

So, that left plenty of time this morning to indulge in a little secret sewing!

And look what I made:

This is destined to be a Christmas pressie for my sweet mum-in-law, but I'm so excited about it, I'm tempted to send it to her now! The pattern is courtesy of this lovely lady.

Note the sweet lemon yellow ribbon (we're big on yellow in this house)

The funky contrasting shoulder straps and lining

but I'm really bummed I don't have a decent camera (instead these are taken with my iPhone!), because the little charm that you can barely see here says "hand made with love". Cute huh?!

I even added a little loop inside which I'm going to attach a little D-ring to, so she can hook her keys safely onto it and not lose them at the bottom of the bag!

Oh I feel all smug and have a nice fuzzy warm feeling inside from hand making something with love for someone else.

Wordle!

Oh look at all those lovely lovely words! This lovely little wordle was inspired by the wordle created by the lovely, slightly-unhinged but looks fantastic in a blond swishy wig spudballoo of Chez Spud.

Thanks spudballoo for introducing me to these things! I'm totally hooked now!

Lobster soozie

Image: Wikipedia

For the past 2 days now, I have been masquerading as a lobster.

It's true. I'm just waiting for someone to grab a slice of lemon, tie my claws hands together and display me on a bed of crushed ice.

Either that or the coast guard will employ me as a beacon to warn approaching ships of impending doom.

That's right. I completely and utterly forgot that pale, freckled Scottish skin does not ever never mix with sun between the hours of noon and 4pm during a heatwave in July. On the beach. With no shade. At all. Not even a parasol.

Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.

Oh it's hurts, boy does it hurt.

I think it's karma's way of giving me a little warning a la My Name is Earl. You see, we had been invited to a 4th of July barbecue, but made a feeble excuse at the last minute in order to go camping instead. Thou shall not lie in order to avoid boring social occasions. Let that be today's lesson.
